Post Surgery, day 9b

I have a few details about pathology report and some not so goods news. First, the good: we got a copy of the report it says in the notes: "tumor regression is estimated at greater than 99%". This does say the Chemo was very effective, miso that is looking very good.

Now for the bad. It turns out the nose tube coming was a bad thing. Besides providing drainage it was also providing some support and protection for where the intestines were connected to the esophagus which is critical to proper healing. If this connection fails there is the risk that she may not ever be able to eat again (feeding tube for rest of life). This is low probability but because of the possible outcome, they are watching her even more mclosely now. It looks like she will be in the hospital for at least another 7-10 days. The other drain is still in place and they are watching that very closely. Once it stops completely or gets clear or mostly pink, then they will do another test to look at everything to see how it is healing. In any case, they will be proceeding very slowly to minimize any risk of the connection failing. We clearly have a much longer waiting period now, but it is what it is. So any food is a ways away.

Not sure what else to say, but after the great pathology report, this has been a bit discouraging. But we do still believe everything will work out fine, just a little longer to get there.
