Post Surgery, day 4a

Barbara did not have a great night last night as she had a lot of visitors trying to get the pain in her side taken care of. She was able to get a straight 4 hours of sleep, but after that there were a lot of interruptions. They have tried a few different things, mostly different drugs or changing doses, but so far nothing is really helping. Because of the sharp pain in her side when she takes a deep breath, she is not breathing deep enough and her blood oxygen is a little low. They started giving her a low level of oxygen this morning and we will see if that helps any.

Except for the shallow breathing because of the rib pain, she is probably doing ok. Unfortunately that is making her very uncomfortable and something they are concerned about because of potential problems that could cause. They are watching her very closely and several doctors are working to come up with a solution even though it is Sunday. I just wish whatever is causing the side pain would go away.

Today should be fun as they want her do deep breathing as often as possible. It looks like it will mostly be me making her use the breathing devices every 5-10 minutes. So I get to be the bad guy. She is trying, but when it hurts to take a deep breath, it is hard to do it. But it is critical to get better and not worse.
