Barbara is finally out of surgery and the doctor said everything went well. She did have to remove the entire stomach which we were expecting even though a partial was possible. The doctor said she did very well and that she could not see any other cancer in the area. They will be testing the stomach and other tissue they removed and we should have results on that next week. They put in an epidural for pain control which was a surprise. They indicated this was to help with pain control for the first few days and to prevent her from having to take too many narcotics for the pain. This makes sense although I had not heard of that before.
The next few days should be fun since she will only get food through a tube up her nose bypassing the healing areas. I have not seen her yet, but should soon. I will try to do another update this evening to let everyone know how she is feeling.
Bottom line is that things went as well as could be expected and now she needs to heal and prepare for the next step.
