Well, today started off with a little bit of a set back. Nothing too serious at this point, but will likely delay her being able to leave.
During the night, the nurses noticed that the liquid coming out of the drain coming out of her abdomen (outside the intestine) had changed color which indicated that there was some leakage from the intestine into the abdominal cavity which is not what they want. They called the surgical team and a couple came in and their first reaction was they would need to do the leak test and probably have to go back into surgery to fix it. Her actual surgeon (their boss) came in a little later and said she wanted the leak to heal itself if possible, so I believe the plan right now is to do the "leak" test and then decide from there. They have made several changes to her medications and various hoses as well, so they are clearly doing what they need to. We have not heard when the leakage test is scheduled yet, but hopefully soon.
Bottom line is that it looks like her stay will probably be longer than we had hoped especially if they need to go back in to repair the leak. We will know more after the test is done, so I will put out an update when we have more data.
Other than that, she is still doing fine. She has taken a walk this morning already, so in general she is continuing to get a little stronger each day. If she has to go back into surgery, I am sure that will set her back a few extra days. Hopefully that will not happen.
