Well, we got lucky and they were able to do the Barium Swallow test the doctor ordered first thing this morning in Portland. Since this was just ordered late on Tuesday, we thought it might be a couple weeks before it could be scheduled, but they had an opening at 9 this morning and we grabbed it. Unfortunately, that meant we headed to Portland a little after 6am. During the test, they told Barbara that they did detect some spasming in her esophagus which says that at least they saw something which is probably causing her "stuck food problem". They also told her that the opening looked clear (confirming what the EGD showed) which is positive confirmation. What is next will have to wait until we can talk to the right doctor which is TBD. We should hear from her surgeon (who ordered the test) soon (hopefully before we head to VA for the wedding), but that will probably be details on who we need to see next (different specialist- gastroenterologist?). The new doctor should know how best to treat this problem. But at least the test showed something that should give them enough information about what to try and fix or at least be able to tell her what she can do to live with the problem better. We seem to be getting closer to getting things to a new "normal".
As soon as I have more details on what is next, I will pass it along.
