Friday, 10/7/16

We met with the surgeon in Farmington who will do the EGD to look for what us causing the problems she is having with stuck food.  He scheduled the procedure for next Thursday afternoon.  He indicated that he is mostly doing an exploration to see what the problem is.  If it looks like there is simply some scar tissue and no inflammation (if it looks uncomplicated), it may go ahead with try to open it up with a balloon.  However, since there is always some risk of causing a rupture, it tends to be overly cautious and if it looks more complicated or he thinks there is more risk of causing a rupture, he will only look at it and gather tissue for pathology to look at (mainly for infection or something else unusual).  If the problem looks more complicated that he is comfortable handling, we would likely end up having it done again in Portland where they are better equipped to handle a problem such as a rupture since that can be very serious and requires immediate invasive surgery.  The risk of a rupture is slight but because it can be very serious, it is best to be prepared.  We appreciated his honesty and approach which is one reason we wanted to go to him in the first place.

We will see what happens next week.
