April 14 Update

Here is a brief update.

We are still waiting to receive the 3rd drug (pills) from a specialist pharmacy.  The first pharmacy they went to was out of our network, so they had to go to a second one for approval and shipment which delayed things a day or two.  This is now done and the drugs are being shipped overnight today so they should arrive via UPS sometime tomorrow.  Unfortunately, they will not start her treatment until we have the pills in hand since they MUST be started at the same time as the IV drugs. Since the shipment will most likely not arrive until too late tomorrow to start her first treatment tomorrow, it will probably be next Wednesday for the start of the first cycle.  If it arrives early tomorrow, we will try to get things started tomorrow, but we do not expect that to happen.

We also found out today that the doctor wants to give her an iron supplement via IV to help with red blood cell production once or twice a week. If given at the same time as her first Chemo treatment, it would extend the day 1 treatment to about 6 hours since that IV takes 90 minutes plus everything else. It will also mean a trip to Farmington at least once a week rather than only once every three weeks, but it should help with minimizing her fatigue.

That is the latest. If we get lucky with the shipment tomorrow, I will update everyone tomorrow night.  Otherwise, we do not expect anything to happen until next Wednesday.  We are currently scheduled to start at 9am that day.
